breakage!

Let’s end the breakage cycle!

More often than not, I have new clients coming in with breakage in the vertex area of the head (the crown). This pattern of breakage is most commonly related to mineral deficiency and hair care practices.

Some hair care practices that could be causing breakage!

  1. Tightly worn ponytails

  2. Wearing ponytails often

  3. Sleeping with your hair unprotected (unwrapped)

  4. Dry hair

  5. Avoiding regular trims

  6. Vitamin and Mineral deficiency (very important)

  7. Medication (beta-blockers) that stop mineral absorption

Most of the issues listed are pretty easy to correct. Get your trim when needed, use a silk or satin scarf to protect your hair, wear a loose natural braid instead of the ponytail, and eat more dark leafy greens and cruciferous veggies. Some vitamins and minerals can’t be found in food like Boron and Vitamin D. These two can be found at a health food store. As far as medications find out if the medication, you're on have hair loss as a side effect. If so, speak with doctor to discuss a possible medication change or maybe if you can be relieved of the medication all together.
